Brekina Collecting Basics

Sondermodelle (Special model) are Limited quantity issue models. Generally made in lots of 500 pcs. by special order from Customers (usually by large Companies) for promotion of their Name. Also clubs will use them to commemorate an event. Sondermodelle come in sets as well. Most Sondermodelle are ordered by German Companies and are distributed there, and rarely make it to the USA.

Production issue Brekina Models: are made in quantities known only to Brekina. Models are numbered by 4 or 5 digits (5 digits being newer)this is the number on the end of the plastic display box. The numbers have a basic code, identifying the base model, example  31*** = split window bus (T1), 32*** = split window bus (T1) and 33*** are Bay window buses (T2's)

Terminology you will see used by Brekina to describe the models are as follows:

T1a = Early "Barndoor Bus or Kombi.1950 thru Mar 1955

T1b =Early Bus ,Kombi ,DoKa or Pritsch. 1955 thru 1966

T2 = Later Bay window Bus,Doka or Pritsch.1967 thru 1979

Kastenwagen / Kasten = Panel bus (No windows)

Kombi = Window bus

Pritschenwagen / Pritsch = Singelcab Pickup ( can be T1 or T2)

Doppelkabine / DoKa = Double Cab Pick up ( can be T1 or T2)

Hochdach = Highroof

Samba = 21 or 23 window Microbus also known as the Deluxe.

fer = Bug / Beetle

Variant = Type III Squareback

Limousine = Sedan Bug or for Type III the Notchback

TL or Fliesshech = Type III Fastback

Please Note: Brekina does not repeat itself ! ! Each Model issue is unique in coloring, accessories and or distinctive markings. Once a model "run" is completed, it is not reproduced again. In this sense Every Brekina is a limited issue. If you see a model you'd like to collect, don't wait too long to get it. Many "normal issue" Brekina models of late have sold out very quickly. Going back to find "out of print" models can be tough, as well as costly. The price will usually go up as soon as they are no longer available from the Factory.
