1912 German Toy maker Schreyer & Co. was formed. Later shortened Schuco. During two world wars and hardship founder Heinrich Müller kept the company going, Manufacturing what ever necessary to make ends meet. In 1935 the first production toy car was produced by Schuco. Many more followed.
In the 1950's The Company grew introducing a new line of model cars in 1951, Schuco became a world wide know toy maker. In 1969 Schuco started producing more and more of their toys in plastic. For the most part the Tin toys where no longer made.
1974 Schuco was having financial problems and was bailed out by the German state of Bavaria and other financial institutions that had interest in seeing Schuco continue. 1975 Schuco tried to come back big showing off their new line of plastic model cars at the Nürnberger Spielwarenmesse. At this point Schuco offered only one Tin Car in its catalog. That was the Studio 1936 Mercedes-Formula Race Car.
1976 Schuco files for Bankruptcy. 1977 The English Toy Company DCM buys what is left of Schuco. The Schuco Manufacturing facility in Nürnberg was dismantled to the surprise of the Germans. Machines, presses, casts, and dies where sold off like so much scrap metal.
The new Company under the name Schuco made Puppets, pedal cars and radio controlled cars. Less that successful the new Schuco went into Bankruptcy in 1980.
The well known German Toy maker Gama (Trix-Mangold GmbH) purchased Schuco. Tin Toys where in demand again. No other German Companies where making tin toys. Now was the time to start re-introducing the old tin toy designs from the early days. Starting in 1981 they decided to bring back the old tin toys one per year.
1996 Trix-Schuco was taken over by Märklin . Schuco was kept separate and was allowed to grow and prosper on its own Name.
During this period Schuco introduced and re-introduced many of its best liked items. under the direction of Peter Brunner the Schuco Piccolo was brought back into production.
April 1999 Schuco was sold to Simba-Dickie and then Became Dickie-Schuco GmbH & Co. KG
Dickie-Schuco GmbH & Co. KG is now one of the largest toy Makers in Europe.
